Working out is a chore. Some people love it. But I personally do not have the time to devote to a work-out schedule to burn 100 calories or more.
Needless to say, working out is the most effective way to burn calories fast, release toxins, get in shape and lose weight. But it does require a time and energy commitment that most of us just don’t have.
Weight loss for busy women is a bit tricky, and I’m honest with myself. I know I’ll start and I’ll probably stop after a day or so (I know this from experience).
But just because you can’t, or don’t want to, go to the gym doesn’t mean you shouldn’t exercise.
I found this one trick really helps me get over the mental hurdle of “exercising”. That trick is to change it’s definition.
I no longer refer to it as exercise. I just call it physical movement. Because when you think about it, all that’s required to lose weight and maintain your weight loss is proper food choices, balancing our hormones and adjusting your lifestyle to involve some physical movement.
So what can you do to burn 100 calories and lose weight without exercising?
Here are 10 ways you can burn 100 calories without going to the gym:
1 – Wash Your Car
30 minutes of car washing will burn 100 calories and probably more depending on the weather and how vigorous you wash your car. So, no more sitting in the car drinking a diet coke going through the car wash at the gas station, ok?
2 – Take a Walk
A 20 minute walk is more than doable more than once a day. My favorite activity was to take a half hour walk on my
lunch break. If you take public transportation to work like I did you’ll probably burn way more than 100 calories per day.
3 – Taking the Stairs
Taking the stairs for 11 minutes will burn 100 calories. So, if you can, forego the elevator.
4 – Cooking
Cooking for 35 minutes will burn 100 calories. Isn’t that great? You can burn calories before you even consume them.
5 – Dancing
You can not only burn 100 calories with 20 minutes of dancing, but let off some steam, de-stress and laugh. And who can’t use more reasons to dance in their life?
6 – Cleaning
Cleaning for 26 minutes will burn 100 or more calories. This cleaning includes vacuuming, dusting and the general “fun” chores we have to do anyway.
7 – Gardening
30 minutes of gardening will burn 100 calories. Why not make it bigger and plant organic vegetables?
8 – Sauna
15 minutes in the sauna will burn 100 calories. I love the sauna. Being in the sauna also helps with minor colds and allows you to sweat out certain toxins as well.
9 – Sleeping
Sleep? What’s that? Sleeping is so much more beneficial than people give it credit for. For some reason, we here in the US wear it as a badge of honor if we only function on 4 hours of sleep.
It’s like we’re super human productive people if we do that. The reality is a 2 hour nap will burn 100 calories. Imagine if you got a regular night’s sleep? Your body would be ever-grateful.
Ok…Ok. I know that burning 100 calories by sleeping doesn’t happen in under 35 minutes, but hey. I just wanted to give more reasons for you to find more time to sleep.
Its one of my favorite hobbies and I know I can’t be alone on that.
10 – Playing Fetch
We have pets for a reason. To provide companionship, to have a friend and to have another member of the family. They are also great workout partners too. Playing fetch with the dog for 20 minutes will burn 100 calories.
So, as you can tell isn’t it a lot easier to think about “exercise” as just physical movement instead of exercise?
If you do that and are conscious of the fact that all of this movement you’re doing is burning calories you will start to notice yourself wanting to do more activities. I know I did.
It’s that mental/physical connection that we inherently have.
Remember, how many calories we burn depends on physical movement and food we consume.
